Producing your own ginger is easier than it seems and is a solution to avoid imports from the other side of the globe. We give you the keys to understanding how to plant ginger and successfully grow this tropical perennial plant in our latitudes.
1 – CHOOSE THE RIGHT RHIZOME FOR PLANTING GINGER
You have to start by choosing the right rhizome. The latter must be well inflated with perfectly healthy skin. Recognizable, the latter should display a light beige color. You should avoid growing a root that has grayish parts. The ideal is to find roots on which green eyes are starting to appear, but this is not essential.
The ginger rhizome, in other words a root, is sold in supermarkets in the exotic fruit section or in organic grocery stores.
It is worth knowing that ginger is a non-hardy plant. It must therefore be placed in a sunny place to develop. It also needs a light, well-drained potting soil.
