If for some reason you don’t have salt, baking soda is still an alternative that works even if it doesn’t have the degree of effectiveness of saline water. Either way, it helps prevent the formation of a layer of moisture that eventually freezes before turning into a layer of ice over time.
To apply, sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda over the ice layers and then use a cloth soaked in warm water and talcum powder to scrub off the ice.
Let the product sit for 20 minutes and then repeat the process again before breaking the ice using a mixture of hot water and baking soda to help defrost. For stubborn ice, use a wooden or rigid plastic spatula to defrost manually but without using too much force. Then proceed to cleaning, being careful not to scratch the surfaces. Rinse with a damp microfiber cloth and dry before turning the device back on.
Remember on this occasion that baking soda is an excellent refrigerator deodorizer.
